Why do some think that our government spends responsibly despite all the continued evidence?

I don't think they spend responsibly, but I don't think the solution is to take away all their money. That would require defaulting on all our debt, which would crash the world economy. What I would like is for people to stop pretending we can fix the entire national debt by cutting expenses without raising revenue.
